Loanyz is an Agricultural Engineer and Plant Health Specialist in Venezuela,Cuba. Loanyz is deeply involved in animal welfare and managing CCPR's satellite refuge at her home, where she cares for over 26 animals. Her expertise extends to organizing community sterilization campaigns and providing medical care with guidance from Dr. Jorge Luis Martinez Diaz. Loanyz's dedication has been instrumental in expanding CCPR's reach, offering vital support to animals and the community.
Dr. Jorge is an exceptional veterinarian whose dedication and expertise have made a profound impact on the lives of countless animals. Known for his skillful hands and immense heart, Dr. Jorge works tirelessly, often under challenging conditions, to perform what many would call miracles. He is intimately familiar with each animal at our sites, ensuring their care is meticulously monitored. Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Jorge's legacy of compassion continues through his two sons, who frequently assist him and are inspired to follow in his footsteps, embodying the same dedication to animal welfare.
Miriam's invaluable assistance at the CCPR Refuge is a blessing we deeply appreciate. This diligent and kind-hearted neighbor visits us at least twice a week, contributing significantly helpful, various tasks. Her culinary skills are particularly notable, creating delightful meals for both guests and our resident animals and humans. Board members who have experienced Miriam's hospitality firsthand can vouch for the magic she brings to the kitchen, enhancing the warmth and welcoming atmosphere of our refuge.
Luis, originally from Punta Alegre near Ciego de Ávila, has a background in carpentry and a lifelong commitment to animal care from his time on his parents' farm. There, he initiated a sterilization campaign for stray and community animals. Now, Luis contributes his talents and hard work at the CCPR Refuge in Jicotea alongside Massiel. Utilizing his carpentry skills, he has transformed the land and constructed the infrastructure that stands today. Luis is continuously at work, planning and building towards the refuge's future growth.
Meet Yunai, a dedicated and hardworker. She is not only a loving wife and mother of two children, but also a skilled professional in working with animals. Together with her husband, Yunai raises sheep and cows, taking meticulous care of their health and well-being. Yunais' expertise lies in deworming, curing, and even suturing the animals when necessary. Her passion for her work shines through in her exceptional skills and knowledge. She is committed to ensuring the health and happiness of the animals under her care. With her strong work ethic and attention to detail, Yunais is known for her exceptional abilities in the field. Her dedication and proficiency make her an invaluable asset in the world of animal husbandry. Beyond her professional achievements, Yunais is a nurturing and caring individual who treasures her family. Living with her husband and mother-in-law, she creates a harmonious and loving environment for her loved ones. Now preparing for retirement from the arts and culture sector, Laura, a frequent visitor to Cuba and the CCPR refuge, has led the CCPR board since 2020, guided by a belief in kindness and seizing unexpected opportunities.
Celia, a retired BMO veteran and a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passionately supports CCPR, managing finances and running fundraisers alongside caring for her two dogs and two rescued horses. Her commitment began with a single fundraiser invitation, embodying her life's mission to always prioritize others' well-being. Her dedication extends beyond her family to include every animal in need she encounters.
Maya, a dedicated Veterinary Technician Assistant at Clinic Ophtalmo Veterinaire in Montreal, balances her full-time job with quality time with loved ones and animals. Having rescued several dogs, including Tiller from the CCPR Refuge in Cuba, she has a long-standing passion for animal welfare, attending conferences, previously working at the SPCA, and always on the front lines protesting. Maya often visits and supports the refuge with essential supplies. Joining the CCPR board of volunteers, Maya has become an indispensable liaison in Montreal, offering her expertise and advice to further our mission.
Nancy's career spanned 35 years as an Early Childhood Educator in London, Ontario, before transitioning to work at Trails End Market. Deeply family-oriented, she cherishes her son, grandchildren, husband, and a senior rescue dog. Her love for Cuba, ignited in 2004, led her to advocate for Cayo Coco's animals, culminating in her joining the CCPR Board of Directors in 2023, contributing her remarkable memory and passion. Nancy embodies the belief that "It takes a Village."
