Learn about Cuba Canada Pet Rescue Inc.

About Us & Our Story

Cuba Canada Pet Rescue (CCPR) was established in 2019 with a mission to improve the lives of animals in Cuba. In August 2024, we formally registered as a Not-for-Profit Corporation with the Province of Ontario under the name Cuba Canada Pet Rescue Inc.                                                          (1000931604).

While our official name has changed, our working name remains:

                                   Cuba Canada Pet Rescue (CCPR).

Our Mission

Our original refuge site in Jicotea,Ciego de Ávila, Cuba, was established to provide much-needed services, including spaying and neutering, a sterile environment for surgeries, and a safe place for animals to recover. Most importantly, it helps reduce the number of animals born on the streets, where resources are scarce.

Your support is vital in ensuring that this important work continues in Cuba, where it is desperately needed. Since 2023, we have been lucky and fortunate enough to expand and now have a second location, located in Venezuela, Ciego De Avila, Cuba. To learn more, please visit our "About us/2 refuges" page.

Now a Registered Not-for-Profit

This official registration as a Not-for-Profit Corporation brings with it an increased level of responsibility. To learn more, please visit our "About us/Not-For profit" page.

Growth and Impact

While our Board remains small, with four Directors, we continue to grow. As of now, our Facebook membership stands at over 4,100 and our website is performing well, reaching more supporters each day.

In Cuba, we employ five full-time staff, one part-time staff member, and provide a monthly salary to our vet. The Board, as volunteers, manages two CCPR rescue facilities:

  • Our original refuge in Jicotea, located 16 km from the town of Ciego de Ávila.
  • A new satellite refuge in Venezuela, 24 km from our original site, which has greatly expanded our ability to rescue animals in previously inaccessible areas.

At any given time, we care for 70+ dogs and cats across both sites. Additionally, our dedicated Protectors regularly feed and care for street and community animals in need.

Organizational Growth and Future Plans

With a dedicated and knowledgeable Board of Directors, growing fundraising efforts, and continued renovations at both our refuge properties, CCPR is becoming a more organized and professional organization. We are excited about the future and the opportunities ahead to help more animals in need.
